Oscam Version Auto Update on Dreambox

Oscam is an open-source project and the developers constantly update the SVN.

If you are a freak about having your devices up to date then you can use this script that downloads the latest version of Oscam for your box and installs it.

The script supports 3 platforms : powerpc-tuxbox, mips-tuxbox and mips-wrt45g.

The default START and STOP command use the script “/usr/script/oscam.emu” which is the one present at the box where I developed the script.
You need to adapt this commands to use your own scripts. Usually they are present in /usr/script or /var/script.

Download this script and upload it to the “/usr/script” or “/var/script” folder on dreambox and set the permissions to 755.

After configuring the script, you can update using telnet to the box and execute the command “sh /usr/script/oscam-update.sh” or “sh /var/script/oscam-update.sh

Alternatively you can set a cronjob to execute the script at a given time (ie: everyday at 5:00 AM) which really make the process completely automatic.

If you like my free work, please consider making a donation and help me pay for the hosting and all the coffee and beer I drink developing this free software.

Version 5 available for download.
This version should fix the tar extracting of the file.
Platform “mips-tuxbox” was removed and a new one was created, it is now “mips-tuxbox-oe2.0″.

    Damn, this doesnt work on VIX image for VU+ DUO. VIX doesnt use scripts for starting and stopping EMU…

    Iam only getting green screen when using your script.

    • Silverfox0786 says:

      Press blue button, select menu VIX there you will see script Runner enter that then exit out

      then FTP into BOX and go to /usr/scripts which will now have been auto created

      place script into there and chmod to 755

      then restart BOX and go back to Script Runner

      and you will find the script is now there and you can run it

  2. M0ng0 says:

    Hi, verry nice script. i have change it for my Dm800HDse with ICVS image and it works perfect. Is it possible to implement a check if new version is avalibe and if true then stop, update and start oscam??

  3. gorgone says:

    wrong detection of dm600 ppc (detects mipsel)

  4. Hugo says:

    The script does not auto-detect which version of dreambox its running on.
    If you want the ppc version of oscam you should edit the script and replace

    PLATFORM=”mips-tuxbox”;

    with

    PLATFORM=”powerpc-tuxbox”;

  5. ferdi says:

    the script does not work anymore,
    echo “Downloading UMP FileCenter index file…”;
    wget -O “ump.tmp” “http://www.ump2002.net/index.php?direction=0&order=mod&directory=OSCam&”

  6. ian says:

    the script needs updating with the new url

    ive tried doing this myself but cannot get it to work.

    hopefully the author hugo will update the script soon.

    Ian.

  7. dibun says:

    Yes the script needs to be updated.

    Hopefully the author will do it soon.

  8. pathfinder says:

    I have modified the orginal script and now it is working.

    thanks hugo your a star

    i dont think you have any idea just how many people have been using your excellent script,so many in fact that the oscam site are doing their utmost to prevent wget downloads,so we may find it stops working again soon.

    but for now it works perfectly,and again,many thanks.

    Ian

    • ian says:

      Hi Hugo,

      they’ve changed something again as they said they would to prevent wget downloads,because from today your script no longer works again.

      i think its only something very small,but for the life of me i cannot see what it is.

      Ian.

      • Hugo says:

        It´s because now there is the “dynamic threads” version on the upload center and it breaks the script. I will be attempting to make a completely new script that doesnt break with simple modifications like this.

  14. ian says:

    nice one Hugo,that will be great.

    Ian.

  15. ferdi says:

    I confirm, the script no longer works again. What you need to correct ? Thanks

  16. Hugo says:

    New version available for download.

  17. ian says:

    many thanks hugo,but unfortunately its not working for me.

    ive changed it to powerpcptuxbox for my 7020 but it give the message onscreen of

    wget: invalid option — T

    and no new version is downloaded.
    it then goes on to stop and start the existing oscam version.this works,but i run oscam and cccam together and the script is not stopping and starting cccam,just oscam.

    could you posibly tell me what to add to allow for the restarting of both emu’s?

    thanks.Ian.

  23. ian says:

    looks like we now have to register to be able to download.

    how you can correct ? thanks

  25. ian says:

    ferdi

    its because we now have to register to be able to download.
    im hoping hugo can edit his script to allow each user to be able to add their personal login details to their own script for the download site.

    after all there’s no way a dreambox can save cookies.

    they have done this to prevent wget downloads.

    Ian.

  26. ian says:

    yes buddy me too

    hugo needs to find a way to allow his script to actually login to the site as though you were logging in from your pc.

    each person would have to enter their own personal login details for the site into their copy of hugos script.

    but i dont even know if this is possible as im not a script writer.

    Ian.

  27. Hugo says:

    Your scripts should now be able to download the files correctly if you are using version 3.
    On version 3 the php script hosted here at tekreaders redirected to the latest revision download at download.oscam.to.
    I have changed it so it redirects to the files hosted here.
    This page will contain the most updated versions of the ULC.

    As for the problem with the extracting I will make some tests and update the script as soon as I find a syntax that works with all boxes so you dont have the “invalid gzip magic” error.
    I think you will also bring back the option of using START and STOP commands for those who would like to use it.

  31. Hugo says:

    ferdi, you are right, and thank you for letting me know.
    I had a bug on a script and didn´t notice it was downloading incorrectly. The 231Kb is just an HTML page as you can see if you rename it to .html and open it in notepad. I had a big bug on my script which is now corrected.
    Also, everyone who is using the script for powerpc-tuxbox beware you are actually downloading powerpc-tuxbox-old . I am using this because they work with all images for old dreamboxes.

    • ferdi says:

      Hugo, thank you for your commitment. I’m trying to experiment with telnet to download the file. We are sure that soon you will have solved the problem and we will have a working script.

    hi hugo,

    please ignore the above post.just updated using your script to 5620 and the ecm times are back to normal of around 80ms again,so it must have been a fault with the previous oscam version and not the fact that i am now using power-pc tuxbox old.

    Hi Hugo,

    i think someware is a bug, becouse for mips the script never download the latest version from your site, just the version before.

    If i use this link http://tekreaders.com/oscam-update/update.php?platform=mips-tuxbox

    u can see it what i mean…

  41. Michael says:

    but for powerpc-tuxbox-old it works correctly. why?

  42. Hugo says:

    not working now..
    wrong prepared file latest_oscam.tar.gz in current version!
    home->azo->oscam-svn->oscam
    please fix it
    best regards

  47. Jeremy says:

    Yes it seems there is an issue with the script as auto update does not work anymore

  48. Dark says:

    Just Change line:

    filename=`tar -xvzf latest_oscam.tar.gz ‘oscam-svn*’`;

    to

    filename=`tar -xvzf latest_oscam.tar.gz ‘oscam*’`;

    and the Script works again.

    But we have a new Problem, the OScam SVN for Mipsel is not uptodate of this Site.
    OScam ULC has changed the Dirs from mips-tuxbox to mips-tuxbox-oe2.0.

  49. Hello guys, I just had some time to check out the script and been fixing stuff.
    Please test version 5, it should be working but you can test it and give some feedback.

    Hello
    I want to try this autoupdate script, but when I go into my VU + Solo 2 OpenPLI 4.0 I don’t see any script. I see into this autoupdate script this:

    OSCAM_START=”/usr/script/oscam.emu start

    and this:

    OSCAM_STOP=”/usr/script/oscam.emu stop

    But I don’t have a folder script in usr – /usr/script/ – and I can’t found where is that script

    oscam.emu

    What I have to do?

    Thanks in advance
